Fauquier Youth Lacrosse League Code of Conduct

PLEASE READ BEFORE REGISTRATION IS COMPLETE OR, PRIOR TO  ASSUMING ANY DUTIES WITH FYLL, IN ANY CAPACITY.  

The following document details FYLL’s Code of Conduct. All those who are affiliated  with FYLL as family, officials, coaches and/or players will be expected to abide by the  conduct points in this document.  

FYLL CODE OF CONDUCT 

Fauquier Youth Lacrosse League (FYLL) will operate and abide by a strict Code of  Conduct governing all Coaches, Players, FYLL Officials (aka Board Members and  volunteers) and Parents. The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to ensure that all  members associated with FYLL are held to a common standard of conduct, which,  fosters a positive environment for players and families.  

The Code of Conduct is a required condition of membership by all Players,  Parents, Coaches and Officials whereby all aforementioned parties MUST accept  the terms and conditions set forth in the Code of Conduct. As members of FYLL,  all parties, by membership, agree to abide by the Code of Conduct and to be subjected  to the consequences of violating any aspect of this Code. By registering for any FYLL  program or participating in any capacity at any FYLL function, that players, parents,  FYLL Officials and coaches are strictly bound by the Code of Conduct. PLEASE NOTE: Registration as a member of the league is contingent on fully  accepting this policy and all of its terms. Once registered, all members, coaches,  officials, and players are obligated by this code and the terms and conditions stated in  this document. 

All code of conduct enforcement reviews and subsequent decisions made by the FYLL  Officials (FYLL Board) are final and are not subject to any review or additional  adjudication requests. FYLL Officials reserve all rights to take immediate, swift  disciplinary actions, based on, not limited to the code of conduct expressed in the  following terms and conditions of this document. Any actions by any affiliates, members,  officials, coaches, players and or volunteers, deemed to be in conflict with the interests,  values, directions and or standards of FYLL and its code of conduct, are subject to  FYLL Official review and resulting action, to include removal from the league. No  refunds will be granted to those members dismissed from the league for violating any  aspect of the Code of Conduct. 

                                                       

Parents 

• Teach and practice good sportsmanship at all games and practices. Sideline conduct  must be positive reinforcement. Any form of heckling or bullying to team members,  family members, referees, etc. for both teams, is strictly prohibited.  

• All issues with coaches or assistant coaches are to be channelled to the respective  Girls or Boys Commissioners, NOT//NOT the coach for a team. 

• Encourage your child - please do not coach your child from the sidelines. Let players  play and coaches coach, and support both positively!

• Never criticize players, regardless of the circumstances. 

• Follow the “24 hour rule”: If you have a complaint resulting from a game (or practice)  situation, contact the commissioner, not the coach, on the following day. • Emphasize the FUN of the game and encourage positive competition.  

Players 

• RESPECT your teammates, coaches, referees and opponents at all times. • Give 100% effort at each practice and game 

• Respect the heritage of the game of Lacrosse. 

• Know the rules of the game of lacrosse and abide by them. 

• Support and encourage your teammates. Set a positive example. • NEVER criticize other players regardless of the circumstances 

• Foul language of any kind will not be tolerated 

• Wear the required equipment at all games and practices. 

• Display good sportsmanship at all times on and off the field. 

• Learn from your coaches; practice hard; play smart; HAVE FUN! 

Coaches 

• A coach is a role model, who must act with the highest moral character possible. • Coaches must reinforce the self image of each player. A coach must be positive and  constructive. 

• NEVER criticize a player or coach 

• Respect the heritage of the game of lacrosse. Respect the officials. • Teach the rules of lacrosse. Abide by those rules in practices and games. • Establish objectives for the team and players and inform them of team and individual  goals. 

• Teach and practice good sportsmanship at all games and practices. • Be modest in victory and gracious in defeat. 

• Coaches are expected to be a positive force for the league and as such, will be held  to the highest standard for representing the league’s values, direction and standards.  

FYLL Members and Officials (ALL) 

• Any conduct that includes abusive language and/or gestures, racially insensitive  remarks, damage to property or belongings, consumption of drugs and alcohol, any  illegal activity, or any other conduct that reflects poorly on yourself or FYLL is deemed  to be unacceptable and WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. This rule applies to all players,  parents, siblings and guests at all times when in or around games or practices as a  member of  

• During a game when you are away, you are a guest of the host team and you  represent FYLL. Any misconduct as listed above WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. • The FYLL Board authorizes the coaches to assist in the enforcement the Code of  Conduct and will support their efforts. 

• FYLL maintains a ‘zero tolerance policy’ for any form of harassment or bullying. In any  instances of such behaviors, members, coaches, officials or players will be removed  and banned from the league. 

The FYLL Board will deal with all matters and instances of unacceptable conduct at its  sole discretion, imposing warnings, suspension or expulsion, as it deems appropriate. ANY DECISION RESULTING IN SUSPENSION OR EXPULSION BASED ON  VIOLATIONS OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT WILL BE FINAL AND WILL NOT BE  ACCOMPANIED BY A REFUND.
